DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Coats for Kids has reached crunch time.

The coat drive is two weeks in, and the organization shares their numbers are low. With warmer weather, many might not be thinking about winter coats.

"It's easy to forget when it's 60 degrees outside. It's going to get cold. That time will happen. And so when that happens, we need to make sure that kids and families have coats" says Ryan Huff, Dove's Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

Dove shared, they are seeing under 200 coats donated so far, still in need of hundreds to reach their goal of 2,500.

Ryan, however, is confident in the power of community. He shares, the 30+ year program is strong because of the power this organization has on families.

Ryan recalls, one of his favorite memories through the years he's been a part of Coats for Kids.

"There was a little girl who was trying on a coat. And she was just dancing around and modeling it. And it's those moments that bring a smile to your face, you realize just how impactful this is to families."
