MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - A Wisconsin man who allegedly kidnapped a woman was arrested by Mattoon Police, and the victim was rescued. 

Mattoon Police arrested Alexander M. Schultz, 31, of Wisconsin, for the offense of Fugitive from Justice.

He was arrested Wednesday at 12:23 p.m. in the 300 block of Lakeland Blvd.

On January 24, MPD was contacted by a police agency in Wisconsin, who reported they were investigating a kidnapping that happened in their jurisdiction.

They said Schultz took an adult woman against her will, and they had reason to believe they were in Mattoon.

MPD was able to obtain additional information through local resources during the course of the investigation.

Officers found the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of Lakeland Blvd. Schultz, who was driving the vehicle, was taken into custody without incident. The victim was in the passenger seat.

Schultz was transported to the Coles County Safety and Detention Center for his outstanding warrants from Wisconsin.

He awaits extradition back to Wisconsin for the warrants and kidnapping charge.

It was later discovered Schultz was on parole in Wisconsin for sex crimes and had cut off an ankle monitoring device.

The victim was reunited with family members.
