BISMARCK, Ill. (WAND) — The Woman's Club of Bismarck is hosting its National Day of Service this weekend.

"We are a part of the General Federation of Women's Clubs and September 30th is the General Federation of Women's Clubs National Day of Service. So, clubs all around the country are doing events to combat hunger," explained Community Food Drive Chairman, Karel Volpert.

Students have even stepped up to the plate. Some students treat it as a competition.

"The junior high and high school students are collecting and bringing in food and you can already see up there at the school's tables full of food for this food drive so it's really exciting to see the kids get involved with that," said Bismarck Blessings President, Carry Hall.

Hall says Bismarck Blessings is one of the recipients of the drive. They work with students every week to ensure they're going home with food for the weekend.

"We try to just fill any need that these families have. So, if it's not food we provide scholarships for sports, clothing items, and just anything that families might need we try to help with that and it is very rewarding," stated Hall.

If you're interested in donating, come out to the Food Drive on Saturday, September 30th at the Bismarck Village Office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
