The Kansas City Royals are moving from Kauffman Stadium to downtown Crown Center. They're partnering with Hallmark Cards on a $3 billion project featuring a new, $1.9 billion ballpark. Royals owner John Sherman and Hallmark chairman Don Hall Jr. announced the plan Wednesday. The stadium will break ground next year. Two-thirds of the funding is private with the rest coming from public sources, such as state and local government. Missouri's contribution comes from a law authorizing bonds for stadium costs. The Royals plan to leave Kauffman Stadium when their lease expires in 2031. The new ballpark aims to create a modern experience in the heart of the city.
