IL Freedom Caucus

Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) told WAND News Democrats keep talking about affordability but fail to address the issue.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Illinois Freedom Caucus members claim lawmakers have not passed any bills this session to help families and businesses.

The Eastern Illinois Republicans told reporters in Springfield Tuesday that none of their ideas for reform received hearings this spring. They also said their chamber has done nothing to shrink government, lower taxes, reduce crime, or address energy costs.

Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) told WAND News Democrats keep talking about affordability, but fail to address the issue.

"Cut wasteful government spending, eliminate entitlement programs for illegal aliens, repeal CEJA to give working families a break on their energy bills, and repeal or suspend the gas tax," Niemerg said. "These are simple ideas that need to happen for the middle class in the state of Illinois."

The MAGA Republicans would like to see lawmakers pass a plan to repeal the estate tax to help farmers. While the ideas have gained bipartisan support in recent years, House Speaker Emanuel "Chris" Welch won't call any bill unless 60 Democrats agree with it.

"We need to stop letting Speaker Welch get a pass with this 60-vote rule. It's made up," said Rep. Blaine Wilhour (R-Louisville). "It's not democracy at all. They go out there and scream about democracy, but then almost 45% of the state is left without a vote because of that."
