Carson & Friends basketball camp set to return for 13th year

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Carson & Friends Basketball Camp returns to Hess Park on July 25 at 8 a.m., with registration available on-site the day of the event.

This is the 13th year for the camp, organized by Coach Calvin Carson. The event is free and open to kids.

Area coaches will be there to help teach kids fundamentals and the love of basketball, including St. Teresa Head Coach Rodney Walker and Mount Zion's Felipe Phillips. Motivational speakers are also scheduled to appear.

A Skywalker Dunk Contest is also planned. Carson said anyone who can dunk is welcome to participate.

The camp is still searching for sponsors to help cover the cost of food, camp shirts and trophies. You can contact Coach Carson if you're interested in donating.
