(WAND) - For the third-straight season, and the 5th time in 18 seasons under head coach Josh Landon, Cissna Park are returning to the IHSA volleyball state semifinals.
In a rematch with #3 seed Windsor Stewardson-Strasburg, the Wolves won straight sets (25-22, 25-11) to book their ticket back to CEFCU Arena at Illinois State University. This also marks the third-straight meeting between the two programs in Super-Sectionals.
In both 2023 and 2024, Cissna Park fell in their semifinal matchup, but were able to walk away with 4th and 3rd place trophies respectively. This year, the team hopes to go for glory.Â
On the other side of the 1A bracket, Hartsburg-Emden fought their way into a three set thriller with #4 seed, Tremont. After falling in the opening set, the Stags battled out of an early deficit to force extra points in the second frame. Hartem was able to double-up on scores late in the set 26-24, to force a winner-take-all. The match remained close through the final stages, but Tremont pulled out the victory over the Stags 25-22.
Rochester met with Columbia in a battle of top seeds in 2A. After keeping pace early in the first set, the Rockets ultimately fell behind and lost the opening frame 25-16. The team responded in the second to be able to close the gap, but ultimately came up shy 25-22, ending their season. The super-sectional appearance is Rochester's best finish since they last made it to the final 8 in 2013.
