DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Fast-food restaurant Wendy's will close hundreds of stores across the U.S., according to its interim CEO.

Ken Cook made the announcement during a quarterly earnings call Friday.

Cook said impacted locations are "consistently underperforming."

A list of restaurants that would close hasn't been released. Closings will start this year and extend into 2026.

Last year, Wendy's closed around 140 locations it also said were underperforming.

Wendy's has around ten stores across central Illinois.

Wendy's reported a decline in same-store sales for the most recent fiscal quarter. Many of its competitors, including McDonald's and Burger King, posted positive earnings, according to WAND News affiliate CNN.

Wendy's has around 7,300 stores all over the world with around 6,000 in the U.S.
