SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - After more than 70 years, women's pro baseball makes its return, and it will kick off in Springfield this summer.

The Women's Pro Baseball League will begin its inaugural season Aug. 1 at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, with the league's four teams: New York, Boston, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Season tickets went on sale Thursday. Group and flex packages will go on sale June 2, while individual game tickets will go on sale June 11.

Each of the four teams will play 15 games to determine playoff seeding in September.

"We can’t wait to see the stands packed with fans cheering for these four incredible teams as they inspire the next generation of ballplayers," said WPBL Commissioner Justine Siegal.

Additional information on the league, including the full schedule, is available on the WPBL's website.
