Dust storm 5.4.26

(WAND) — A dust storm warning has been issued for areas between Decatur and Bloomington Monday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning will be in effect until 5 p.m. Monday, with strong winds reducing visibility in some areas.

The NWS Lincoln office said it has received several reports of thick dust on parts of Illinois Route 121 near Latham, along with satellite data showing dust plumes extending into south central McLean County.

The advisory will impact communities like Clinton, Maroa, Warrensburg, Wapella, LeRoy, Heyworth, Latham, Kenney, Chestnut, DeWitt, Lane, Midland City and Hallsville.

The NWS said visibility will be near zero in blowing dust.

The Maroa-Forysth Middle School track has been postponed due to the dust storm.

People with respiratory problems are advised to stay inside until the storm passes.

According to the agency, drivers who encounter blowing dust or sand while driving should pull off the road as far as possible, put the vehicle in park, let off the brake pedal and turn the vehicle lights all the way off.
