(WAND) - The struggles in the lack of precipitation are on full display across parts of the Canadian Plains. In particular, Manitoba is being scarred by no less than 18 wildfires; 11 of which are deemed "out of control" by Manitoba Natural Resources and Northern Development.Â
What does an area roughly 1,000 miles away have to do with us? Think back a couple of years ago when central Illinois endured several days of smoke and haze from Canadian wildfires. The starting point was different back then, but the end result remains the same: limited time outdoors for those with respiratory issues.Â
Hazy skies and perhaps a whiff of smoke may return later Friday into part of this weekend. A large storm over James Bay in Canada will combine with higher pressure in the West to force the air from Manitoba into Illinois.  Â
