Three sites in our communities saw their hottest day of 2025 today. Two of those broke a record that was set yesterday.
Springfield saw a high temperature Sunday of 98º, beating out the highest temperature of 2025 set on Saturday which was 97º. In Decatur Sunday the high temperature climbed to 99º after rising to 97º on Saturday, which at the time at been the highest temperature of 2025. Mattoon also makes the list Sunday; the temperature there reached 96º. Previously the highest the temperature had climbed in Mattoon in 2025 was 94º which happened on August 16th.
The heat will continue all week, but not quite to this level. Thanks to a slight wind shift Sunday night, high temperatures should *only* rise to the low 90s Monday. They will stay in that territory most of the week ahead, though, so brace for the heat this week.
