DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Over the past week, central Illinois has not seen a change in the drought monitor. There has been some improvement over the past 90 days in the severe drought area. In contrast, the extreme drought area has increased a bit during that same time frame. Â
Rewind to a year ago (check out the second graphic), and only northern tier counties are abnormally dry. That's astounding! It goes to show what a rough year it was in the precipitation department.  Â
Going forward, the average precipitation for February is near two inches, and March is close to 2.6". While the forecast looks promising to receive this much wet weather and a bit more, it will not be enough to take us out of the drought.Â
