DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Every Thursday, the U.S. Drought Monitor puts out an updated map including data from up to Tuesday, so this afternoon, we got an updated Drought Monitor that shows drought has worsened in our communities.

More of our communities are in the Severe Drought category (level 3 out of 5), up to 20% from 5% last week.

Moderate Drought (level 2 out of 5) also increased from 30% to 43% this week. Everyone who is not included in one of those levels but is inside our coverage area is included in the Abnormally Dry level, which is level 1 out of 5.

We knew the drought would get worse since we didn't get any rain last week, but there is a promising chance of rain in the forecast next week!

Watch for more details about that in the coming days here in our WAND Weather Blog.
