DECATUR, IL. (WAND) - An ongoing drought problem across Illinois continues to bring concerns across the state, especially in central Illinois. The most extreme and severe drought conditions are currently situated over central Illinois, and only a few chances for beneficial rain are in the forecast.
Tonight, we return to quiet conditions and mostly clear skies. This will allow temperatures to drop into the mid to low 30s overnight. However, warmer air returns Friday with sunshine and deep southerly flow. This is a shift that signals our next weathermaker, which will arrive this weekend.Â
We’re tracking an area of low pressure that will bring rain on Valentine's afternoon and evening. The heaviest of the rainfall will be farther south along the I-70 corridor, but areas as far north as the I-72 corridor could see some of the rain pass through as well. With totals up to ¾ of an inch possible, this could provide some minorly beneficial rain to the very dry region.Â
