MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) -- A man found dead after being hit while walking along Illinois Rt. 16 in Coles County has been identified as a correctional officer and a member of the Army National Guard.  

Illinois State Police said it happened near Mattoon around 11:50 p.m. Saturday on IL Rt. 16 just east of I-57.

Police said Dylan Bellamy, 22, of Benton, Wisconsin, was walking in the right lane of the highway, when a 35-year-old from Mattoon ran into him. Troopers said Bellamy landed in the left lane of the highway.

A second vehicle also hit Bellamy. Troopers said the drive of the second vehicle, a 26-year-old woman of Mascoutah, IL, was cited for DUI. 

The road was closed for several hours while police investigated. 

Monday, the Grant County Sheriff Office in Wisconsin said Bellamy worked for the department. 

According to the sheriffs office, Bellamy was also a member of the Army National Guard, and he was in Illinois for his training weekend with his unit which is based out of Mattoon.

The crash is still under investigation.
