SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The City of Springfield is hosting a city-wide observance in August commemorating the 1908 Springfield Race Riot.

From Aug. 14-16, organizations across the city will present programs and have events that reflect on the legacy of the riot, which became a catalyst for the NAACP's founding.

The Lincoln Library in Springfield also hosted a reception with opening remarks from Mayor Misty Buscher and Springfield NAACP President Austin Randolph.

The full calendar for the three-day event is available on Visit Springfield's website.
