DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman is being remembered by the Danville community he grew up in.

Hackman, 95, was found dead Wednesday along with his 63-year-old wife, Betsy Arakawa, and their dog in their Santa Fe home. Investigators say they had been dead for "some time," but that no foul play is suspected in their deaths. Their causes of death have not yet been determined.Â

Hackman was born in San Bernardino, California, but he grew up in Danville, where his father worked for the Commercial-News.Â

Executive Director for the Danville Public Library Jennifer Hess said, "It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Gene Hackman, a cherished resident of Danville and an iconic film star."

"Mr. Hackman's journey from our small town to Hollywood stardom is a testament to his extraordinary talent and determination. Despite his global fame, he never forgot his roots, and his story remains a source of pride for our community," Hess continued.Â

Hackman was a five-time Oscar nominee. In addition to his acting career, he co-authored five books.

He and his co-author, Daniel Lenihan, visited the Danville Public Library in 2004 for a book signing event. Hess said the Danville Public Library has copies of his books and movies available for check out, as well as archival materials about his life and works.

"As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his life and the enduring mark he left on the arts. In honor of Gene Hackman, we are showing his movies in the first-floor meeting room today through Saturday. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his work," Hess said.Â
