CPD and departments with Mahomet, Rantoul, and Urbana held their annual "Battle of the Badges" Salvation Army Red Kettle Challenge on December 6-7.
All departments combined raised $3,122.11 to help the needs of the Champaign County Salvation Army.
Champaign police raised $1,117.67, Mahomet police raised $742.86, Rantoul police raised $736.58, and Urbana police raised $525.
"We are grateful and blessed by the generosity of the local police departments and the Red Kettle donors who came out to raise critical funds in this year’s bell ringing challenge that will help make a positive impact on the lives of over 70,000 neighbors in Champaign County,” said Captain Kenyon and Captain Melissa Sivels, corps officers of The Salvation Army of Champaign County. "Every donation made to a Red Kettle stays local and provide hope and love to someone facing hardship."
The goal of the Salvation Army's Love Beyond Christmas Red Kettle campaign is to raise $200,000.
