DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Two prescribed burns are scheduled for this week in Decatur, according to the city.Â
The burns would take place during the week of March 10 to March 15. The first location being at a prairie restoration located to the south of the Lake Decatur dam and west of US Rt. 51, and the other is woodland located west of Star Route Road and north of Reas Bridge Road.
City officials have stated that safety measures will be implemented to reduce smoke impacts on residences and roadways. As there are no hazardous materials on-site, residents can feel assured.
The properties are owned by the City of Decatur, and the planned burns adhere to City Code Chapter 48 regarding native plantings and authorized burning by City officials. They also comply with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency guidelines, as outlined in the Open Burning Permits issued to the City of Decatur.
Local authorities and fire officials have been informed that the burns will occur.Â
The burn days are dependent on favorable weather conditions and are subject to change.
