DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The City of Decatur will host an upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the Decatur Civic Center's solar canopy project.
The ceremony will occur at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, in the Decatur Civic Center parking lot under one of the canopies, weather permitting.
Six solar canopies were constructed in the Civic Center's parking lot. Â
The City said in a press release that the canopies have 2,600+ solar panels on top, which will supply up to 95% of the facility's electrical needs for at least the next 15 years.
