SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Leaders at Springfield District 186 unveiled new athletic facilities, a cafeteria area, a commons area, and a fine arts area for the band and choir programs Saturday.
These renovations are one of many projects being funded by the 1% county sales tax increase, which voters decided on in 2018.Â
"We've been able to renovate buildings, add safety features, be able to do things equitably across our community. And we wanted to make sure that we were touching every corner and all parts of our school district and making sure that they have the best facilities to attend school," said current Superintendent Jennifer Gill.
The improvements don't end there — Springfield High School is hoping to open its classroom section in the fall.Â
For updates on the improvements, and plans of what facilities will be changing, check the District 186 website.Â
