CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND)- Eastern Illinois Foodbank (EIF) is distributing food to surrounding area families facing food insecurity. Their new food mobile is making big strides to alleviate food fears, and meet community members where they are at.
Their food mobile is allowing them to reach more families and distribute more food, sharing, "We wanted the food to be reaching people where they're at. We got funding from the state of Illinois, and we were able to purchase a trailer that actually lets us go out into these communities. "
The Eastern Illinois Food Bank serves over 18 counties, distributing food to over 100 people every day.
Supporting families in need is important to the food bank, but the staff cannot do it alone. They shared with us how much of a community effort it is.
"Our priority is definitely to provide as much inclusive, nutritious food to people as possible. We really want to be growing those stronger communities. Getting out into these communities and making it as simple as possible for people to receive food assistance. There's no donation to small no, no way to get involved that doesn't make too much of an impact."
The food mobile will travel throughout southern Champaign County on 08/06/2024 and northern Champaign County on 08/09/24, with distribution sites and times and for each town listed here.
