Fall Foliage

(WAND) — It’s early in the season, but many minds are already thinking about the vibrant fall foliage. Whether you have lived here your entire life or are new to the area, there’s always another spot to find when you go “leafing”.

Earlier this month, we talked about certain trees that are more likely to produce red or orange. The best part about central Illinois is that native trees usually live in harmony with each other. This means that you can easily find two different trees next to each other as you’re walking through your neighborhood or local park, creating the perfect scene.

So, where are the best places to view foliage in central Illinois? Realistically, anywhere can be the perfect place, but there are some areas that have a slight advantage. Obviously, you must go somewhere that provides an abundance of different trees.

Enjoy Illinois suggests that farms and orchards such as The Great Pumpkin Patch in Arthur provide a great opportunity. If you’re in the area, Allerton Park in Monticello provides a great scene. Live in the city and don’t want to travel too far? Lake Decatur is certainly a popular place! Even your local universities can bring you back to past times as you walk the campus. Of course, that’s just the start of it. Any state park, like Fox Ridge State Park near Charleston, is also a good choice and you won’t be disappointed. Rivers, lakes, and ponds can all can have the perfect backdrop once the colors change!

The point is that you want to find an area in which you can immerse yourself and get lost in the beauty that Mother Nature provides this time of year. Who knows, you might even find the perfect spot is right in your backyard!
