Fall Foliage

(WAND) — As leaves continue to change, many are headed outdoors to try to find the perfect photo. Wonder how long the fall foliage will stick around?

Peak foliage season is extremely short, lasting only a handful of days. This year, it looks to be from Oct. 27 to Nov. 3 You’ll still notice many changes throughout central Illinois in the days to follow, but there’s an incoming concern that may ruin some chances by late next week.

This upcoming week is expected to be the coldest central Illinois has experienced since early spring. Temperatures during the day will be in the mid 40s, with lows at night dropping to nearly 23°!

The color of leaves is determined by different weather phenomenon and one of those is temperature. The quicker cooler weather settles in, the more likely it is for leaves to change from green directly to brown and fall from the tree.

While this won’t completely ruin your chance to see the vibrant colors of the season, it’s a good sign to try to get out early next week and get your best photo.

Don’t forget to submit your Fall Foliage photos to the WAND Weather team as they are always looking for photos to share both online and on-air with credit to you!
