DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — After the loss of 6-year-old Noah Edwards, the Decatur community is rallying behind the family, hoping to raise $10,000.Â
They are currently holding a car wash at the corner of Sunset and Oakland. The car wash is donation-based; you can donate any amount of money and get a wash, buff, and wax. They are also selling hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, and water. They are accepting cash, Cash App, and Apple Pay.
The organizer, Matthew Joyner, had previously worked with Noah's mother, and said he wanted to help rally the community in efforts to relieve some of the family's monetary stress.Â
"My goal is to get her to where she don't have to work so hard, where her kids can be taken care of. Birthdays, stuff that she's gonna be struggling with because a piece of them is missing. No matter what a piece of them will always be missing," Joyner said.
The fundraiser will be running until sundown tonight.
Joyner is not the only community member trying to raise funds for the family, there is also a GoFundMe to help support them.
