PANA, Ill. (WAND) — An over $10.5 million rebuild of IL Route 29 through Pana will begin next week.
According to Pana Mayor Nathan Pastor, the rebuild will start on Monday, March 23, after over three years of collaboration and planning between the city and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).
Pastor said the project has a total cost of 10,566,462. It will consist of a complete rebuild of IL Route 29 through Pana from approximately the "Welcome to Pana" sign at the Lincoln Prairie Bike Trail, all the way down to the location of the Junction Garden Center.
Construction crews will also install new sidewalks, curbs and gutters.
"This is a long awaited project that will make a positive impact on travel through our community as well as all of us that travel Route 29 each day," Pastor said in a Facebook post.
According to Pastor, the project could take over a year to finish, with a projected completion date of July 28, 2027. The city said drivers should watch for signage posting dates provided by IDOT and updates on the City of Pana website and social media pages.
