DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Looking to create heart healthy meals? The University of Illinois Extension is offering a program that will teach participants how small lifestyle changes can improve heart health.
“Small changes add up to get blood cholesterol and blood pressure numbers in a healthy range, said Nutrition and Wellness Educator Caitlin Mellendorf. “The class will raise your knowledge and skills to make more informed heart-healthy food choices.”
Heart Smart Eating will be from 11 a.m. to noon on May 19 at the Decatur Family YMCA, 220 W. McKinley Ave. Participants will explore the impact sodium, fat, added sugar, and fiber have on heart health and learn practical skills to make heart-healthy food choices from grocery shopping to meal planning.
The class is free, but those interested should register by May 15 at go.illinois.edu/YMCAheart or by calling 217-877-6042.
The University of Illinois Extension develops educational programs, extends knowledge, and builds partnerships to support people, communities, and their environments as part of the state's land-grant institution.
