CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon 5k has been delayed by 30 minutes due to severe weather.

Marathon officials made the decision after speaking to an on-site National Weather Service representative. They announced on their Facebook page that the race will now start at 8 p.m. when the chance for lightning is reduced.

"We have made this decision out of an abundance of caution and with your safety in mind!" officials wrote.

Shelter will be provided in the Great West Hall inside Memorial Stadium. Volunteers will be there to keep runners updated.
