Jerk Shop Go in Springfield shuts down

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A Springfield restaurant is shutting its doors.

Jerk Shop Go announced on Facebook they will close as of June 23.

"Unfortunately, the building we occupy is no longer suitable for operating a restaurant, and the property owner has declined to make necessary repairs while we are still tenants," the owners posted. "As a result, we have mutually agreed to part ways.

"We had originally planned to remain in the space through the end of our lease, but the recent heat wave has made it simply unsafe and inhumane for our staff to work in conditions that are not habitable."

The owners continued, "Leaving Springfield is bittersweet. We have truly grown to appreciate this city, and we are incredibly thankful for all of our loyal customers and dedicated staff who have supported us up to this point."

The owners have created a GoFundMe page to help staff members as they transition to new jobs.
