Lincoln Library

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Lincoln Library is celebrating its 140th birthday Monday. 

The celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Carnegie North. The public is encouraged to stop by at any point during the day. 

Guests will enjoy cake, the opening of the 1976 cornerstone time capsule, and a continuously looped slideshow on history of the library. 

Springfield Public Library was established by city council in 1886. In 1904, a new building funded by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie was opened, and the institution became known as Lincoln Library.
