FARMER CITY, Ill. (WAND) - A Farmer City man was arrested after he was accused of breaking into an elderly woman's home and refusing to leave.

Farmer City is about 30 minutes northeast of Clinton in DeWitt County.

The Farmer City Police Department said officers and the DeWitt County Sheriff's Department were called around 7 p.m. Saturday to a home along East Water Street.

According to Farmer City police, a 79-year-old woman told a neighbor that a man she didn't know had entered her home and would not leave, all while preventing her from getting help.

The woman managed to escape the home, and that was when the neighbor called the police.

Police arrived to find a man, identified as 65-year-old Timothy Murphey, still inside, where he was taken into custody.

Murphey is currently at the DeWitt County Jail and was charged with criminal trespass to residence, aggravated battery, disorderly conduct and resisting a peace officer.
