NORMAL (25News Now) - Normal Police have arrested a 19-year-old Chicago man suspected of fatally shooting a teenager and seriously wounding another during a pop-up party in September near Illinois State University.
Donye Arrington was arrested with the help of U.S. Marshals in Chicago after a McLean County Grand Jury handed up indictments for the Sept. 29 shooting.
Randall Glass III, 18, of from the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn was killed. Another 18-year-old was wounded after authorities said more than 1,000 people showed up at a pop-up party that started at Normal’s Fairview Park and wound its way closer to campus.
Arrington is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, each carrying an enhanced sentence of between 25 years to life in prison because a gun was used to commit the killing.
Arrington is also charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and unlawful use of machine gun parts. The charging document alleges Arrington had in his possession a switch, which converts the weapon into a machine gun.
In a statement, Normal Police said the case remains active to “investigate and identify” additional suspects.
“We extend our gratitude to our law enforcement partners and the community for their ongoing cooperation and support throughout this investigation,” the police department said.
