Quadball, a sport based on the magical game of Quidditch, is a mixed-gender, full-contact sport played all around the United States and 40 countries.
The rules were adapted from the "Potter" series by a college in Vermont and take cues from rubgy, dodgeball, and flag football. A Quadball team is made up of seven athletes who must keep a broom between their legs at all times.
“We’re excited to partner again with Experience Champaign Urbana and US Quadball for another US Quadball Cup Qualifier,” said Ryan Reid, Director of Operations for the Rantoul Family Sports Complex. “The 2023 event was a tremendous success, and we look forward to hosting this unique sport this spring and hopefully in the years to come!”
Three hundred and fifty athletes will be bringing their brooms to the Rantoul Family Sports Complex Saturday and Sunday. On Friday night, residents can even stop by the Fringe, 849 Stone Ridge Drive, for an informal meet-and-greet with the Quadball athletes.
“We’re excited to host the US Quadball National Qualifier at the Rantoul Sports Complex,” said Mark Brown, Director of Event Services & Film for Experience Champaign-Urbana. “This event will introduce our community to this truly unique and enjoyable sport while creating opportunities for Quadball to grow in our area. Additionally, we’re thrilled that US Quadball is offering free entry to the event for Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club members and their families as a way to give back to our community.”
