SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The Sangamon County Disaster Recovery Coalition is launching on December 11. 

The coalition is a countywide initiative with a goal of uniting nonprofits, faith-based groups, civic organizations, agencies, and community partners to become more organized and respond more effectively during times of disaster. 

Local organizations are invited to attend an organizing meeting to learn more. The meeting will be held December 11 at 4 p.m. at the University of Illinois Extension, 700 S. Airport Dr., Springfield. 

During the meeting, participants will review the draft organizational by-laws, preview the initial action plan, and discuss how individual organizations can support disaster recovery efforts across the country.

Attendees will also be able to connect with leaders in disaster response, including representation from United Way of Central Illinois, American Red Cross, City of Springfield, Central Illinois Foodbank, IEMA, and others.

The Sangamon County Disaster Recovery Coalition Steering Committee includes:
