fall leaves (GG)

(WAND) - An interactive trip planner is now available to help you find the best places across Illinois to view fall's beauty.

Enjoy Illinois and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources has a map to show you where to find beautiful fall foliage across the state.

The interactive trip planner shows you the best times to find photo-worthy fall spots. According to Enjoy Illinois, area foliage is made up of "the orange and yellow of maples and oaks, the purple hues of dogwoods and hazelnuts, and the red and orange clusters of rose hips on wild roses."

For regular updates throughout the season, view the fall color report page.

You can use the fall color tracker to help select the best time to see the changing colors all over Illinois. In Central Illinois, the colors will peak in mid to late October.

Use the slider to move through the fall months of September, October, and November. As you do, you'll see the colors change on the map below, indicating the start of fall foliage through to the peak and end of the shifting colors.
