SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - "As a family, we would always cook dinner together and bake chocolate chip cookies. It felt like a natural step to try and own a business..." shared Alli Donaldson, Owner of Golden Hour Bakehouse.
Donaldson grew up in the food industry, with a love of baking treats and discovering new recipes. Last February, she turned her passion into brick and mortar.Â
She opened Golden Hour Bakehouse in Springfield, serving pastries, breakfast options and coffees. Donaldson also included gluten free and dairy free choices on her menu, to accommodate all dietary needs.Â
A month in from their grand opening, Donaldson could not be more proud.
"It has been incredibly successful to say the least..." she added, with a smile.
Donaldson owns and operates the small business, with her team of women behind her. Many of them, just starting their careers.Â
"A lot of us are in our early 20s to early 30s," she proudly noted. "We are a team of very young, independent women here."
With her team of roughly ten, Donaldson feels honored to be celebrating Women's History Month with her colleagues in the Springfield community.
"This is a super historic city, so it's really a pinch me moment almost every day coming in here..." Donaldson shared. "During Women's History Month I'm like wow, we built this together."
This month, Donaldson reflects back on her childhood dream that has now become a reality.Â
"We just really love what we do."
