PEORIA (25News Now) - The Peoria County Coroner has identified a 10-year-old boy, who died Sunday night in a shooting at the Cityscape Apartments.
On Monday, Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the boy as 10-year-old Lamar Johnson, II of Peoria.
In a statement released Monday night, Harwood said one of Lamar’s parents lives in Springfield, and the child lived with his other parent in the 600 block of Romeo B. Garrett Avenue, close to where the shooting happened about 7:35 p.m. Sunday. A Shot Spotter alert indicated two rounds were fired there.
Harwood said autopsy results show Johnson suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and likely died within seconds.
“My heart breaks for this innocent little boy. May God be with his soul,” said Harwood.
There is no word on a suspect, and the shooting remains under investigation.
Peoria Police spokeswoman Semone Roth said a two-round ShotSpotter came in around 7:35 p.m. on the 600 block of Romeo B. Garrett Avenue.
