SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield Police are investigating after a seven-year-old boy drowned in a pool at a residence Saturday.
The Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, confirmed the death of the boy that was transported by EMS to HSHS St. John’s Hospital Emergency Room from the 2300 block of Winnebago Drive.Â
Springfield Police said that when they arrived, multiple children were there without adult supervision. The seven-year-old boy was unresponsive after being found submerged in the deep end of a pool at the residence.Â
The child was pronounced deceased by hospital staff at 1 p.m. shortly after his arrival.
An autopsy was done Monday and preliminary findings are consistent with drowning, the coroner reported.Â
The death remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Department, the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
