DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – Illinois travelers are getting a jump on their holiday travel plans this year, according to a new survey from AAA.

“We recommend finalizing plans before the end of October to access the best combination of price and availability,” said Debbie Haas, Vice President for Travel at AAA. “Planning your holiday travel early is the best way to have the most choices, secure great value and avoid the stress of last-minute planning.”

According to AAA, 52% of Illinoisans plan to take at least one overnight trip during the 2025 holiday season, 71% will travel for Christmas, 62% for Thanksgiving and 49% for New Year’s Eve.

Over half of Illinois travelers (59%) had finalized their travel plans for Thanksgiving by the end of September. By the end of October, the percentage is expected to hit 85%.
