(NBC CHICAGO) -Â An explosion at a chemical plant in Ottawa Tuesday morning was leading to multiple street closures, with residents being asked to avoid the area and emergency responders on scene, NBC Chicago reports.
Just before 8 a.m, the Ottawa Fire Department received a call of an incident at Coogee Chemicals, located at 1501 Titanium Drive. In a Facebook post, the Ottawa Fire Department asked people nearby the avoid the area, describing the scene as "active."
According to authorities, the incident was being investigated as an explosion.
"Traffic is being detoured around the area," the post said. "Updates will be provided when available."
An executive manager of the plant told NBC Chicago by phone that he was headed over to the location after receiving an alert.
It wasn't immediately clear if anyone was injured. No further details around the incident were provided.
