DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Macon Co. Casa serves about 600 children in just Macon Co. alone. During April, Child Abuse Prevention Month, the organization is spreading awareness about what some children are going through.

Shyler Kraus, the Marketing and Development Manager at Macon Co. CASA, said, "To protect children and have their best interest at the forefront and to have events that kind of realign with that mission and drive that point home is super important for us and for our community."

With an expansion into Christian and Moultrie counties, CASA expects to be serving close to 800 children eventually.

"When there are more and more children that are in situations of abuse, neglect, and unfathomable situations," Kraus said, "It takes a village."

CASA is always looking for more child advocates.

"We've got another training course set to start May 1st, which is very exciting," Kraus said. "I am a brand new advocate, so I'm looking for more people to join the cause."

Throughout April, CASA has multiple events lined up.

On April 22nd, there is a live panel with Bikers Against Child Abuse from 6-8 p.m.

CASA will deliver homemade cookies to you on April 24-25.

On April 27th at Revival Culture Church on N Van Dyke Street, the organization hosts showings of the movie 'Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot.'

The movie follows the story of a Texas town that adopted all the children in need.
