DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Macon County Casa is gearing up to help foster children in Christian and Moultrie Counties. The organization is looking for more volunteers in all three counties.

"After learning more about what the roles and responsibility actually is, it's so important to be educated on these different ways that you can recognize that a child might need that extra help," Shyler Kraus, Macon County Casa's Marketing and Development Manager, said. "Especially kids in the foster care system, they do need that extra help."

Casa will continue to serve the nearly 600 kids in Macon County on top of Christian and Moultrie counties.

"The expansion into Christian and Moultrie counties will strengthen the relationships we have with our Decatur Macon County local advocates," Kraus said. "We will be kind of starting from scratch in an area that's never had advocates before. So, we will really lean on our advocate volunteers."

The organization needs more help to serve the amount of children that need help.

"It is our job as advocates and within our role at Macon county Casa to make sure that every single child has an advocate and has someone that has their back and is their voice for them within the court system," Kraus added. "Whether that's Macon county, DeWitt county, Christian County: we want to be there for them."

Macon County Casa's volunteer advocate training will be held Thursday, January 20th.
