SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND)- The Cats' Pyjamas Cat Cafe in Springfield is officially open.
The cafe is located on East Adams Street in Downtown Springfield. The Cafe has a changing schedule because they don't have full-time staff members left.Â
"At this point, it's just $5 to come in to see our cafe cats and we aim to have people come and adopt the cats here and submit their applications through the Animal Protective League (APL)," said owner, Tom Raymond. "And from there, we also raise funds just maintain the health and safety of the cats here on site."
The owners are working with the Animal Protective League, to have 10-15 cats in the cafe at a time while at full capacity, right now they only have four. The cafe has already had its first official adoption with one of their cats being adopted by a family in Springfield.Â
The cafe strives to provide a calming space for people and cats. They want community members to be able to spend plenty of time with the cats before bringing them into the their homes.Â
"It really does help produce a really good transitional site for the cats rather than being at the shelter than going straight to a new home," said Raymond. "This allows them to understand what a home will feel like until they actually get there."Â
