Red, white and cool: Decatur family paints entire front yard to resemble American flag

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Steven and Amanda Hancock spent three days painting their entire front lawn to resemble the American flag.

They turned the lawn into a vibrant tribute to America, mapping out the design before picking up a single brush.

"First day was kind of just mapping it out, putting a bunch of sticks in the yard, figuring out where it was going," said Amanda Hancock. "Second day was mostly the blue in the stars. That would take about a gallon and a half of paint. The red and white [were] two gallons each, and we finished that on day three."

Both Amanda and Steven have family members who have served in the U.S. military.

The display is turning heads and drawing their neighbors' attention.
