Cerro Gordo Community Pre-School raising money to re-open in 2021

CERRO GORDO, ILL. (WAND) -- "For some students, this is their only option for pre-school."
The Cerro Gordo Community Pre-School is fighting to stay open.
"We have to continue fundraising to keep our licensing since we are a non-profit, if we don't have tuition or coming in we can't be open," CEO of the pre-school Brittany Wright said.
The potential loss of the Cerro Gordo Community Pre-School could be massive, with the Illinois state board of education releasing data that shows increases of kindergarten readiness in students. It's a school for students from the ages 3-to-5 to begin their educational development.
"The idea is to get the kids in a school environment even though it's only from 8-to-11 every day it helps them with the socialization and it starts with their colors, their ABCs and their numbers," Wright said.
As a non-profit, the pre-school has to have a license with the department of children and family services -- so it doesn't receive funding from the state -- the school depends on fundraisers to be able to operate. So, they're partnering with Club Car Wash in Decatur to cover the costs for the school.
"I just thought it would be a great option for people who haven't tried out the car wash yet -- for the best wash you were going to pay 18 dollars so why not have nine of it go back to your community preschool," Wright said.
Fundraisers give the school hope they'll be able to re-open in January of 2021.
"We're pretty excited to try and get the pre-school back open, I know that Miss Brenda is chomping at the bit ready to go -- she was pretty disappointed that we weren't able to open so, it'll be a good thing when we do re-open," Wright said.
