CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Champaign Central High School's athletic director has stepped down following an arrest for domestic battery this month.
In a letter to Central students and families, Principal Joe Williams said that Patrick Cox stepped down effective Sept. 11.
Records show that Cox was arrested for domestic battery on Sept. 1 and released the next day. Formal charges have not been filed.
Cox had been in his position at Central since July 1 of this year.
Principal Williams said the AD job will be posted, but that Associate Athletics Director Devin Lindemann, and Athletics Secretary Tabatha Wenzel will be the points of contact for athletic and facilities requests in the meantime.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
