CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) – A Chicago man is in custody following an investigation into the shooting death of Heaven Hope.
24-year-old Carl Tribble Jr. of Chicago was arrested on Dec. 11, in Farmington, Missouri after a car chase that started in southern Illinois.
Tribble remains in custody there, pending transport back to Champaign County, where a warrant has been issued on a charge of first-degree murder.
According to the Champaign Police Department, officers were called to the 2400 block of W. Springfield Avenue for a report of a shooting with injuries on December 9.
Once on-scene, officers found 21-year-old Heaven Hope with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds.
Officers and the Champaign Fire Department provided medical help until Hope was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The initial investigation lead police to believe that Hope and a man were entering a business when Tribble opened fire. Hope was hit multiple times, but the man was unharmed. Tribble then fled the scene on foot.
Police believe that the incident arose from an argument that took place outside the business.
This is a developing story.
