DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Temperatures have been in the single digits throughout the week, if not worse, which leads parents to wonder what to do with their kids away from the cold.
The Children's Museum of Illinois in Decatur offers them a fun place to stay warm.
"We get really busy during the winter months as people are looking for fun things to do in Decatur where they can get out of the cold a little bit," said Rikki Parker, the Executive Director of the Museum. "Especially if it's a day where kids have off school or a snow day or something like that, we try to stay open on those days so that parents have something that they can do that's fun for the kids."
The museum prides itself on being a place where families can go and have fun together, while also having the opportunity to learn something new.
"We have dozens of exhibits at the Children's Museum of Illinois. [We have] our grocery store where kids can shop for groceries and put together a fun meal with their families," Parker said. "We have a brand new water table that just opened in October, and then we also have our ready, set, build area where kids can play with oversized Legos and all sorts of fun stuff."
The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is also open on Sunday from noon to 4:30 p.m.
