CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - The first human case of West Nile Virus has been reported in Christian County.

The Christian County Health Department said a person in their 60s tested positive on August 22 and has been experiencing mild fatigue.

Most people with West Nile Virus do not develop symptoms, the CDC reports. However, 1 in 5 develop a fever and other symptoms like headaches, body aches, joint pain, and fatigue.

Christian County Public Health Administrator Dr. Chad Anderson said, "If you have spent time outdoors in an area with a significant amount of mosquitoes and you develop symptoms afterward, you may want to visit your primary care physician for further evaluation. The evaluation may include testing for WNV."

The Christian County Health Department conducts weekly testing of mosquito samples collected from areas in the county.
